Basics of Poker and Poker Hands

Most poker games inside of our casinos are played with a standard 52-card deck. The cards are ranked according to the value of the number on the card or the value of the face. The ranking, from highest to lowest, goes as such: Ace (A), King (K), Queen (Q), Jack (J), 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. The ace can also be used to complete a low straight; A, 2, 3, 4, 5. As well as numbers and faces there are 4 different types of suits which are used to determine the value of a poker hand. These are: Spades (S), Clubs (C), Diamonds (D), Hearts (H).

Poker hands are valued based on their five card ranking. These rankings are detailed below:

Rank Hand Name Description Example
1 Royal Flush 5 cards, 10 to the Ace of the same suit 10, J, Q, K, A
2 Straight Flush 5 cards of same suit in sequence 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
3 4 of a kind 4 cards of the same rank 7, 7, 7, 7
4 Full House 3 of a kind plus a pair 3, 3, 3, K, K
5 Flush 5 cards of the same 3, 7, 10, Q, A
6 Straight 5 cards in sequence 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
7 3 of a kind 3 cards of the same rank J, J, J
8 2 Pair 2 pairs of different rank 5, 5, 9, 9
9 1 Pair 2 cards of the same rank A, A

Tie Hands

If two hands are tied in rank, the following rules apply:

1 If two players both have straight flushes, flushes, or straights, the highest card that is part of the hand determines the winning hand. If the highest card still results in a tie then the next highest card will determine the winner. And so on...
2 If both players have a full house, then the highest 3 of a kind will determine the winner.
3 If both players have three of a kind the highest ranking three of a kind will be determined the winner.
4 The highest-ranking pair in the hand will decide two hands with two pair. If this still results in a tie then the remaining pairs will be compared and the highest-ranking pair will then decide the winner.
5 If both players have a single pair then the highest-ranking pair will win. If this is also a tie then next highest-ranking single card will determine the winner. If this still results in a tie then the next highest single ranking card will determine the winner. And so on...
6 Two hands with no pairs, flushes, or straights are compared and the card with the highest ranking single card will be determined the winner. If this still yields no winner then the next highest card will be determined the winner.

And so on...

BLACKJACK
Blackjack was originated in France and is one the most popular casino games in America. The main objective is to get as close to 21 without going over while still beating the dealer's hand. This is done by counting up the value of the cards in your hand. All cards numbered 2 through 10 are at face value. All face cards are valued at 10 while an ace is valued at either 1 or 11 at the player's discretion. Hands containing an ace valued at 11 are considered to be "soft" hands (i.e. A, 6 is a soft 17) while hands containing an ace valued at 1 are considered "hard" hands (i.e. A, 6,Q is a hard 17) A blackjack is an ace and card valued at 10 (10, J, Q, K). A two-card blackjack always beats three or more cards, which equal 21.

Before receiving any cards the player must place a wager. Once the wager is made the player is dealt 2 cards face up. The dealer is also dealt two cards, one face up and the other face down. The dealer's "hole" card remains face down until the player's have completed their hands. At this point the dealer turns over his hole card. If his hand totals a hard 17 through 21 he must stand. If his hand is 16 or under the dealer must continue to take cards until either his hand is over 16 or bust (which means over 21). The dealer must hit on a soft 16. The player has many different betting and playing options...

Blackjack Player Options

Bet Click on the denomination of chips you wish to bet, if you need to remove some chips right click on the chip in your chip tray that represents the amount that you wisht to remove.

Hit This deals the player another card. If your 2 cards were to equal 10 you have nothing lose by requesting another card since your total could not exceed 21.
Stand This means that the player is satisfied with his hand and does not want to risk another hit.
Double If your first two cards equal 10 or 11 you are given the option to double your initial wager. Once you have chosen to do this you will be dealt a third card and no more. Your hand will only consist of the 3 cards.
Splitting If you are dealt two cards with identical value you can then split them
(i.e. 8, 8 OR 10, Q)
You would now be playing 2 separate hands, each starting with one of the two split cards. You will now be dealt a second card to one of the hands. After this hand is played out the second hand will be dealt a second card and continued until that hand is played out. All regular rules apply to each hand with the ability to double down. You may only split your hand once and a new wager equal to the initial wager will be placed for each split hand. A split hand blackjack pays out at 1-1 rather the normal 2-1. When splitting aces, the player will only receive one card on each hand.
Insurance When the dealer's exposed card is an ace, the player will be given the option to place an insurance wager. This wager will equal one half of the original bet and will be placed on the insurance line. If the dealer has blackjack the player will get paid 2 to 1 on the insurance bet with the original bet being lost. This evens out and acts similar to a push. If the dealer does not have blackjack the insurance bet is lost immediately.

Payoffs

Players win their wager if their total hand is higher than the dealer's without going over 21. If the player busts, then the dealer wins the hand before turning over a card. All hands that total less than the dealer's hand lose. Hands that are equal in value will be considered a tie, or a push. If the player gets a blackjack the payout will be at 3:2 rather than 1:1.

CARIBBEAN STUD POKER
This table game is played with one deck. The player has two ways of making money from this stud game. The first is similar to other table games. The player places an ante on the space provided on the table. The dealer will deal a hand of five cards to the player and a hand of five cards to himself. The final card dealt to the dealer is dealt face up so that the player can see the value of the card. At this point the player can see all five of their cards and one of the dealers. Now the player can make the decision to fold or bet. If the player chooses to fold, the hand and ante is surrendered to the dealer and a new hand begins. If the player chooses to bet, and therefore compares their hand to the dealers hand, the player has to place the bet on the table. The bet has to be twice the value of the ante, no more, no less.

The dealer will then show the player his cards. The dealer qualifies for play if his hand is ranked with an Ace, King or higher. If the dealer does not have a qualifying hand and the player has bet then the dealer pushes the players bet and ante back plus the amount of the ante, as winnings. If the dealer has a qualifying hand and the player beats the dealer the player wins an equal value to his ante and the bet is paid out at odds to the value of the player's hand.
